Child Safety Links

Keeping children safe from harm is crucial to giving them the advantages of Internet access. Here are some links that explore the topic of child safety, including a few of the many "child-friendly" sites.

Information for Parents:

Child Safety on the Information Highway is probably the best and best-known writing on the subject. Written by Lawrence J. Magid, a syndicated columnist for the Los Angeles Times, this article separates the myths from the realities, explains what the risks are, includes guidelines for parents, and rules for children to abide by while on the Net.

The Internet Advocate, a resource guide for librarians and educators interested in providing youth access to the Net.

Internet Safety for Kids, notes, advice and warnings from the University of Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.

America Links Up, a national public education campaign to teach parents and children how to have a safe and rewarding online experience.

The Kids on the Web list of sites that offer information for and about kids. Among other things, it includes a lot of stuff for them to play with, information for adults, and info about schools and education.

World Village is a commercial, 'family-safe' site focused on the home computing experience.
